KATHMANDU, Aug 11: United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is all set to organize sports event in the country to mark Team Refugee's first ever participation in the Rio Olympics 2016.
The Olympics features 10 refugee athletes from four countries including two swimmers from Syria, two judokas from Congo, six runners from Ethiopia and South Sudan. On Saturday, a 7.5 km road race will be organized in Jhapa, starting from Damak refugee camp and ending at Beldangi camp. Bhutanese refugees and local residents will participate in the race. Similarly, on August 18, football, badminton and table tennis games will be organized in the capital, according to a press statement issued by UNHCR Nepal.
