UNESCO to organize Asia Pacific conference on intangible culture

KATHMANDU, June 25: The 33rd Annual General Meeting of the Nepal National Commission for UNESCO approved its upcoming policy and program today.  The meeting approved of organizing the Asia Pacific Regional Conference aimed at preserving the intangible culture and heritages.  

The meeting was organized virtually. The conference will be organized in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, UNESCO Kathmandu, organizations working in the sector of promotion and preservation of intangible cultures and the metropolitan cities. 

The conference will be organized even in a virtual way if it cannot be held physically this year.  The meeting was chaired by the Commission’s general secretary and secretary at the Ministry of Education, Ram Prasad Thapaliya. 

The assistant general secretary, Dr Baburam Adhikari presented the upcoming schedule of the program in the meeting. He added that a Buddhism Culture Related Museum and Museology Programme would be organized in coordination with Lumbini Buddhist University this year.

The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Education Ministry, UNESCO Headquarters will facilitate the programme.  

Similarly, a modern libraray will be established at the Commission’s office, Singha Durbar with the financial and technical support of UNESCO Kathmandu. The AGM has approved the budget of about Rs 4 million.  Addressing the programme, Thapaliya assured the government’s support to UNESCO to organize different effective and constructive programs.
