UN Hq abuzz with UNGA activities

NEW YORK (USA), Sept 21: The United Nations headquarters in New York, USA, has been lately bustling with activities relating to the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) that started on 13 September. 

The Heads of the State and Heads of the Government of various countries have arrived in New York to attend the UN's annual event. 

Minster for Foreign Affairs Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat is leading the Nepali delegation to the UNGA which include Minister Mahat's personal secretary Jokh Bahadur Mahara, parliamentarian Mohan Bahadur Bahadur Basnet, Chief Secretary Dr. Somlal Subedi and Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairag. 

The other members of the delegation are Joint-Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Bharat Raj Poudel and Nepal's Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, Durga Prasad Bhattarai among others. 

Media persons, mostly accompanying their respective delegations, have also arrived in New York for the coverage of the event. 
The theme of the 71st Session is "The Sustainable Development Goals: A Universal Push to Transform our World". 

The top agendas of the UNGA this year include issues relating to refuges and migrants as well as sustainable development goals, climate change and terrorism. 

The Nepali delegates, including Minister Mahat, are scheduled to address the UNGA on 24 September. 

US President Barack Obama has addressed the 71st session of the General Assembly on Tuesday. RSS
