UML wins in all 7 local units of Dhankuta

DHANKUTA, July 2: Dhankuta district has turned into a red fort for the CPN-UML as the party has won the elections in all the seven local units of the district. UML candidates won the elections for the posts of both mayor and deputy mayor of Dhankuta Municipality along with 42 ward chairpersons. With this victory, UML has an overwhelming majority in the district coordination committee as well.

CPN UML's Chintan Tamang won the race for mayor in Dhankuta Municipality securing 4,933 votes. His closest rival of the Nepali Congress Dinesh Rai managed to get 4,899 votes. Similarly, CPN UML's Shakuntala Basnet got elected as the deputy mayor with 5,112 votes, defeating Nepali Congress' Renu Shrestha who got 3,392 votes according to the district election office.

In Pakhribas Municipality, UML candidates were successful in wining the posts of mayor, deputy mayor and all other remaining posts. Birkha Bahadur Rai got 4,439 votes to win the mayor's post beating Nepali Congress's Indira Thapa who got only 1,628 votes. UML's Devkala Poudel (Timilsena) won the post of deputy mayor with 4,426 votes, beating her nearest rival from the Nepali Congress, Gyan Bahadur Gurung who got only 1,833 votes.

UML also got victory in Mahalaxmi Municipality in the mayor's race as Parshuram Nepal won with 4,897 votes defeating his nearest rival, Agni Poudel of the Nepali Congress who got 3,176 votes. In the deputy mayor's race, UML's Manju Adhikary won with 4,524 votes defeating RPP's Mahendra Niraula who amassed 2,156 votes. Nepali Congress and RPP had formed an electoral alliance in this municipality.

In Chathar Jorpati rural municipality, UML's Sher Bahadur Limbu won the chief post with 3,349 votes beating CPN (Maoist Center)'s Bishnu Parghari who got only 1,539 votes.

UML's Bhimkala Shrestha won the post of deputy chief with 3,289 votes, beating Maoist Center's Gita Limbu who got 2,073 votes.

The UML was victorious in Khalsa Chintang Sahidbhumi Rural Municipality as well as Umnoj Rai won the chief's race amassing 4,054 votes beating his rival from the Maoist Center Bharat Singh Rai who only got 1,579 votes. For the deputy chief, UML's Rantaswari Rai won with 3,916 votes defeating her nearest rival of the Maoist Center, Ramkumari Rai, who got only 1,534 votes. 

In Chaubise Rural Municipality, UML's Khajindra Rai won the chief post with 3,782 votes beating his closest rival Darka Chemjong of Nepali Congress who managed 3,279 votes.

Similarly, UML's Yagya Kumari Ruchal won the post of deputy chief, amassing 3,696 votes and beating her nearest rival Upendra Lawati of the Federal Socialist Forum who got 2,699 votes. Nepali Congress and Federal Socialist Forum had formed an electoral alliance in this rural municipality.
