KATHMANDU, Oct 23: The ward-level convention of the main opposition, CPN-UML is being held across the country today under the 10th national general convention of the party. The ward convention will be inaugurated virtually by the party's Chairman KP Sharma Oli.
The ward-level convention will be followed by a municipality-level convention starting on October 25. The tenth general convention of the CPN-UML will be held in Chitwan, Bagmati Province from November 26 to 28.
UML to hold district convention on January 7
Electronic voting machines will be used for election purposes at the UML general convention in Chitwan.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the UML Standing Committee on Friday appointed Surendra Pandey as the co-coordinator of the 21-member conventional main management committee and Bishnu Rimal as the secretary and some other members of the committee.
Vice-chairman Rawal to resign
During the meeting, UML Vice-chairman and coordinator of the 10-point proposal implementation facilitation task force, Dr Bhim Bahadur Rawal, expressed his dissatisfaction over the non-implementation of the 10-point proposal and announced his resignation from the post. Talking to reporters after the meeting, he said that he would resign as Chairman KP Sharma Oli was against the 10-point sentiment that he had submitted as a report with suggestions for implementation. Rawal said that he registered a dissenting opinion at the meeting as there was no proposal to ‘nominate 10 percent in the central committee and only two central members has been proposed’.
