KATHMANDU, May 15: While thanking all voters and candidates taking part in the local level polls on Sunday, the main opposition party, CPN-UML, has asked the Election Commission to make re-polling arrangements in places where election booths were captured and voters were put under threat.

The UML in a press statement denounced the incidents of violence and booth capture in various

districts. The party claimed that voters were unable to cast their votes in various districts including in Dolakha. The party maintained that the EC, officials of the home ministry and chief of the security agencies in the concerned districts despite their repeated requests were unable to safeguard people's right to cast their votes without any fear and intimidation.

"We want to draw the attention of all that the results which might come from intimidation and booth capture will not be acceptable to the people and these kinds of incidents will increase hatred toward democracy itself," the statement said while demanding re-polling in such places.

Although the UML welcomed the polls, the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Center) were yet to issue any official statement till Republica went to press.
