KATHMANDU, July 29: The CPN (UML) has decided to provide financial assistance to the families of those who lost their lives in the recent floods and landslides in different parts of the country.

A meeting of party Central Secretariat held at the party central office Dhumbarahi under the chairmanship of General Secretary Ishwor Pokhrel took the decision that the bereaved families would be provided with Rs 25,000 each from the party's 'Natural Disaster Relief Fund', the party in the press note said.

Likewise, party central office-bearers and central members, lawmakers and any candidate getting political appointments on the recommendation of the party would personally contribute Rs 5,000 each to the Fund, the statement issued by the party Publicity Department added.

The meeting appealed to all party members at home and abroad and members of its sister organisations for contributing to the Fund.

Extending tribute to the deceased and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the meeting drew the attention of the government towards ensuring better treatment to those left injured in the disasters and providing safe shelters to the displaced ones.

Meantime, the meeting condemned the attack on the Nepali people gathered near the no-man's land at Tialathi of Saptari Thursday to protest the embankment being reconstructed by the Indian side 'unilaterally'. The government was urged to resolve the problem permanently through a diplomatic procedure. RSS
