KATHMANDU, April 20: CPN-UML Secretary Pradip Gyawali has said that UML is ready to back Prachanda-led government if it faces hurdles in the course of holding local-level elections.

Stating that his party is not willing to join the current government, Secretary Gyawali said, “We will not participate in the government, but we will support his government staying out of it.” He further said that UML is already into local-level polls, claiming that the local elections slated for May 14 will take place at any cost.

He warned of stir if the elections were adjourned or foiled under any pretext.

We have disagreed with the prime minister’s proposal to hold elections in two phases, arguing that this proposal does not have any meaning in the present context.

Gyawali said that holding elections in two phases is just an unnecessary pretext which should be stopped right away.

No one can guarantee that the Madhes-centric parties will take part in the elections as they have already announced protest programs against it.
