KATHMANDU, May 26: CPN-UML lawmakers obstructed parliament today. UML MPs rose from their seats as soon as the meeting started. Speaker Devraj Ghimire asked them to sit. But after the MPs did not obey, the Speaker gave time to MP Padam Giri to speak.
He voiced his opposition by citing the statement made by the Member of Parliament representing the ruling party, who claimed that the gold plating adorning Pashupatinath Temple during the tenure of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was actually counterfeit brass. Urging the government to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter, he expressed deep concern over the alleged dissemination of false information, asserting that such actions amounted to an attack on the beliefs and devotion of Hindus, for whom Pashupatinath holds immense religious significance.
At the same time, the Speaker gave time to MP Hitraj Pandey to speak. UML leaders surrounded the rostrum.
After MPs shouted slogans around the rostrum, the Speaker adjourned the meeting.
