KATHMANDU, Aug 14: The CPN-UML has instructed its lawmakers to support Sudurpaschim Province Chief Minister (CM) Kamal Bahadur Shah in today's critical vote of confidence.
Recently reappointed as the CM, Shah seeks to secure his position with the backing of the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML for his second term.

The UML has directed its lawmakers to attend today's provincial assembly meeting and vote in favor of CM Shah.
The Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) is also part of the coalition supporting Shah, alongside the NC and UML.
As per Article 168(2) of the constitution, a Chief Minister appointed in this way must secure a vote of confidence from the House within a month.
In the 53-member Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly, Shah needs at least 27 votes to secure a majority. He currently has the support of 18 members from the ruling NC and 11 from UML, with additional backing from the NUP.
