KATHMANDU, July 31: The CPN-UML has demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Balendra Shah and Minister for Home Affairs Sudan Gurung, holding them morally responsible for the incident in Sunsari.
Speaking at Thursday's meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR), UML lawmaker Padma Aryal said the prime minister and home minister should step down, taking moral responsibility for the shooting incident in Sunsari.

Referring to calls for the resignation and prosecution of previous office-bearers over similar incidents, Aryal said, "If a prime minister and home minister were required to resign and even face detention when a shooting occurred in Kathmandu and lives were lost, then the same standard should apply when a shooting takes place in Sunsari."
She also questioned whether those who had previously sought to hold others criminally liable were now prepared to accept moral responsibility for the Sunsari incident.
Accusing the prime minister of remaining absent while unrest gripped the country, Aryal said, "The country's leadership must stand with the people in times of hardship. Leaders should be present among the people. We are ready to support the government in ensuring public safety and strengthening the nation, but the government must act accordingly."
