KATHMANDU, July 21: The Central Committee (CC) meeting of the CPN-UML is taking place today (Monday). The meeting is scheduled at 11:00 AM at party headquarters, Chyasal, Lalitpur.
The meeting is focusing on the issues, including a proposal for amendment to the party's statute, reporting on the party's organizational works and preparation for the statute convention, said Rajendra Gautam, Chief of the UML's Publicity Department.
Chief Gautam informed that the proposal for revising the party's statute, previously endorsed by the Secretariat and Politburo meetings, will be presented and discussed in today’s meeting.
UML CC meeting taking place today
The amendment proposal has sought the removal of the 70-year-old age limit for the Party Chairperson and the previous provision for two terms in the executive position.
A three-tier structure, including the standing committee, the politburo, and the central committee, has been proposed in the amendment.
Currently, there is a provision for 357 members in the UML Central Committee. The meeting is expected to be a crucial gathering of the party line at a time when it is facing a proposal of major change in party statute- age limit and consecutive term.
Another factor drawing equal attention to the meeting is the entry of Bidya Bhandari, former President, into the UML, which seems to be entertained by a section in the party, while another even denies her membership renewal.
Amidst this, Bhandari and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli held a meeting at party headquarters on Sunday.
