TAPLEJUNG, Dec 2: Kumari Sauden of CPN-UML has won the by-election for the Ward Chairperson position of Sikicha in Sirijanga Rural Municipality-3, Taplejung. She secured 353 votes to achieve victory.
Her closest competitor, Ambi Sauden of CPN (Maoist Center) received 251 votes, while Bhim Laksamba Limbu of the Nepali Congress (NC) secured 218 votes.

Similarly, Devi Prasad Paudel, the candidate of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP), received only seven votes. Out of the total 892 votes cast, nine votes were declared invalid, according to the election officer's office.
Earlier in the 2079 BS election, the NC secured victory in this ward. Kumari Saudan had been defeated by a thin margin of 4 votes by the NC candidate Dil Prasad Bokhim.
With this victory, Kumari Sauden became the only female ward chairperson in Taplejung district. In a district with 61 wards, she is the sole female ward chairperson elected to this position.
