KATHMANDU, Oct 25: CPN-UML Manang  candidate Khanda Lama Gurung has withdrawn her candidacy paving a way for  independent candidate Rajiv Gurung alias gangster Deepak Manange who is contesting the provincial elections (2) in Manang district.

“UML's candidate Khanda has withdrawn her candidacy. Independent candidate Rajiv Gurung will now contest the provincial elections with his lone rival of Nepali Congress Karma Gurung,” Manang's chief election officer Deepak Dhakal told Republica Online.

Rajiv Gurung registered his candidacy as an independent candidate after he was denied ticket by the UML despite being recommended by the district committee.

CPN-UML Manang's President Polden Chopang Gurung has agreed to support Rajiv after Khanda Lama withdrew her candidacy. He said, "Our candidate now is Rajiv Gurung. In spite of being independent candidate, he will get our full support."  Rajiv and Khanda Lama are cousins by relation.
