KATHMANDU, Oct 13: The ongoing secretariat meeting of the CPN-UML has demanded the restoration of the House of Representatives, calling the current interim government and the dissolution unconstitutional and undemocratic.

The party also accused the government of not creating a ‘fearless’ and ‘peaceful’ environment to hold the election on March 5, putting the fate of the election in uncertainty.

The decisions were made during the party’s 58th Secretariat meeting held on Sunday. Speaking after the meeting, Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali informed that the Secretariat unanimously concluded that the recent dissolution of the House of Representatives must be reversed.

“This meeting has deemed the dissolution of the House of Representatives as unconstitutional and undemocratic. The meeting has made a clear demand that the House be restored,” Gyawali stated.

The House was dissolved following the fall of UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s government after the Gen Z rebellion on September 8 and 9. In the aftermath, Sushila Karki assumed the office of the Prime Minister and recommended the dissolution of the House to President Ram Chandra Poudel—an action the UML strongly opposed.

“The CPN-UML firmly stands against the dissolution, considering Prime Minister Karki’s move a direct violation of constitutional principles,” Gyawali added.

The party also concluded that the current government has not created an ‘environment’ to conduct the election as called. “The current government seems like they will hold an election for one party. How could they conduct an election without taking  political parties into confidence.”

Alongside the political stance, the Secretariat has decided to hold the party’s 11th General Convention in the last week of Mangsir. The exact date and venue will be finalized during the Central Committee meeting scheduled to begin on the 29th of this month.

“The General Convention will be a significant political event for the party, and preparations will move forward accordingly,” Gyawali said.

With these decisions, the CPN-UML has positioned itself firmly against the current political developments, signaling a period of heightened political activity and internal consolidation.
