RAJBIRAJ, Feb 22: The United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) on Tuesday evening took out a torch rally in Rajbiraj, the district headquarters of Saptari, to protest the government's announcement of the date to hold the local level election.
The demonstration started from the premises of the Shiva temple in Rajbiraj with protestors vowing to prevent the election until their demands are addressed. They chanted slogans against the government before the rally ended at Jana Andolan Chowk.
The rally was taken out on the eve of the general strike the UDMF has called in the districts of Tarai today. The Cabinet meeting held on Monday evening had announced its decision to hold the local level election on May 14.
The Front cadres also took out demonstrations in Bhardaha, Kanchanpur and Hanumannagar among other locations in the district, police said. RSS
