SAPTARI , March 13: The cadres and leaders of the United Democratic Madhesi Forum (UDMF) have boycotted the celebration of Holi festival in Saptari district that is observed today in various parts of Terai including the district.

The Front boycotted the celebration in protest of the Saptari incident on March 6. Four persons were killed when police had opened fired at the protestors supporting the UDMF who tried to disrupt the CPN-UML's function in Maleth VDC near Rajbiraj in Saptari district.

One injured succumbed to injuries recently while 24 more have sustained injuries.
The cadres as well as some members of the public were seen tonsuring their heads while grieving the killing of the locals.

Rastriya Madhesh Samajwadi Party Secretary Gajendra Mandal shared that the UDMF, the alliance of various Madhesh-centric political parties, had called for boycotting the celebration of colors in mourning of those killed on March 6.

Places like Rajbiraj, Bhardah, Kanchanpur, Salyanpur, Pathauna among others which otherwise used to bathe in a riot of colors during the Holi appear to paint a grim picture in absence of the public observing the festival with zeal and fervor.
UDMF had enforced shutdown for a week in Saptari district that was lifted in view of Holi festival. RSS
