KATHMANDU, Dec 30: Police have arrested two youths from Kirtipur on charges of online fraud through Whatsapp and Facebook.
The arrested have been identified as Santosh Shrestha, 22, and Asha Shrestha,19.
“The arrested created a fake Facebook and Whatsapp accounts, and impersonated a Dutch national to deceive people,” said police.
They deceived the victims, convincing them that they would send precious goods from the Netherlands. Following conversations on social media platforms, the arrested convinced the victims to send a total of 4.19 million rupees to bank accounts of Kishor Shrestha and Santosh Shrestha.
The arrested are kept in custody, and police are investigating the case.
