MAHOTTARI, Sept 24: Police have detained two swindlers who were attempting to escape after cheating unsuspecting victims with counterfeit US dollars in Bardibas of Mahottari district on Friday.
The arrested - Man Kumar Danuwar, 26, of Katari Municipality-3, Udayapur, and Mingmar Lama, 32, of Baskharka VDC, Sindhupalchowk - were involved with a fraud racket that swindled people under the pretext of exchanging US dollars. Area Police Office (APO) Bardibas arrested them after they cheated Rs 200,000 each from Baljeet Rai and Raj Kumar Rai of Dharan Sub-metropolitan of Sunsari, informed Deputy Inspector of Police (DSP) Deepak Pokharel of the APO.
Police confiscated USD 421, Rs 70,100, two mobile sets, and a motorcycle (Ba 10 Pa 1880) from them, according to DSP Pokharel.
There were three swindlers, out of which one escaped while police managed to arrest the two. Police said they have intensified search operation to arrest the one who managed to flee.
