BABIYACHAUR (Myagdi), Aug 18: Two shepherds were hurt and at least 72 sheep killed when lightning struck them at Girka in Myagdi on Wednesday night.
The incident occurred at a sheep pen when the shepherds—Indra Bahadur Chhantyal and Nare BK--were sleeping, said social mobiliser Jhaka Bahadur Chhantyal.
The number of dead sheep, valued at more than Rs 1 million, could rise as the collection of the dead sheep was underway, he added.
The injured shepherds were undergoing treatment at a local health post and that they are said to be out of danger, a local resident said.
The dead sheep belong to local people, Chhantyal, BK, Bhabir BK, Khimsar BK, Durga BK, Binaya BK and Prem Prasad Chhantyal. Chief of the District Livestock Service Office Dayaram Chapagain said that initiations would be taken to provide compensation to the affected sheep owners. RSS
