Two pickups carrying smuggled liquor seized near India border in Sarlahi

SARLAHI, July 27: Police in Sarlahi have seized two pickup vehicles loaded with Soufi liquor that were allegedly being smuggled into India through the Balara border point.



The first vehicle, a Bolero pickup (Province 2-03-001 Kha 5135), was intercepted at around 9 am on Monday at Laxmipur border point in Balara Municipality-3.

Later, at around 11 am, police seized another pickup (Province 2-03-001 Cha 5668) carrying liquor from Sedhwa village in Balara Municipality-1.


According to the District Police Office, Sarlahi, both vehicles were carrying a large quantity of Soufi liquor and were intercepted during a special surveillance operation while allegedly being prepared for illegal transport to India.


The seized vehicles have been kept at the Gadhaiya Area Police Office, and further investigation is underway, said DSP Bed Prasad Gautam, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Sarlahi.


Following the incident, local residents urged authorities to tighten security along the Balara border, claiming the route is frequently used to smuggle liquor and other goods into India.
