SINDHUPALCHOWK, Jan 28: Two students missing in Langtang National Park since January 17 have been found dead on Monday.

Their bodies were found buried in snow at Dupcheshwar Rural Municipality-1 in Nuwakot district. The deceased have been identified as Wangel Sherpa, 17, a resident of Helambu Rural Municipality-1, Sindhupalchowk, and Japan Lama, 17, of Gokarneshwar Municipality-7, Kathmandu.

According to Dongba Nima Gyalzen, chairman of Helambu Rural Municipality, the locals found the bodies buried under snow near Ghoptefedi region of the national park at noon on Monday.

After the students went missing, Dupcheshwar Rural Municipality had mobilized a search team led by a local Lal Bahadur Tamang. A rescue helicopter was also sent to the national park to search for the missing.

“The students might have been buried in the snow while they were walking,” Lama said, adding that the deceased were the students of Kumari Boarding School of Bauddha in Kathmandu. They had been to Gosaikunda before visiting the national park.

On January 17, the teenagers had stayed at Fedi Lodge at Ghyangfedi where they were last spotted alive. The missing students had called their family members and shared about the heavy snowfall in the area before going out of contact.
