Two held with INR 200,000 and 562g silver in Kapilvastu

Two gold and silver traders, one Indian and one Nepali, have been arrested with nearly INR 200,000 in undeclared cash and over half a kilogram of silver.

KAPILVASTU, May 18 : Two gold and silver traders, one Indian and one Nepali, have been arrested with nearly INR 200,000 in undeclared cash and over half a kilogram of silver.


Police apprehended Om Prakash, who is from Uska Bazaar, Siddharthnagar, India, with INR 196,120 and 562 grams of silver in Masjid Tole, Ward 1 of Kapilvastu Municipality. Upon interrogation, Prakash claimed that Rs 97,300 of the amount belonged to Rahul Verma, a 34-year-old trader from Chowk Bazaar, Ward 1.

Verma, who operates Ashok Jewellers, was also taken into custody. He told police that the money was a pending payment owed to Prakash.


Sources say Prakash regularly brought gold and silver from India to sell in Taulihawa, Kapilvastu.


Both individuals have been handed over to the Revenue Investigation Office in Butwal for further action.
