Two die in truck-motorcycle hits

KATHMANDU, March 21: A policeman and a youth died in two different accidents which occurred in Tanahun and Dhading on Tuesday.

Police personnel Nanda Kumar Shrestha of Sitganga Municipality -3, Arghakhanchi, died after his motorcycle was bumped by a truck Haledi of Shuklagandaki-2, Tanahun, along the Prithvi Highway on Tuesday evening.

Shrestha worked for Province 4 Police Office, Pokhara. The accident occurred at around 8 pm. Shrestha was traveling to Damauli from Pokhara when his motorbike (Na 46 Pa 5514) was hit by a truck (Ba 4 Kha 710) coming from the same direction.

He was rushed to GP Koirala National Center for Respiratory Diseases (NCRD), Belchautara for treatment. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his in juries on the way, according to Tanahun Police. Reportedly, one of the rear tyres of the truck touched his motorcycle.

The Dulegauda-Kotre road section along the Prithvi Highway is in a dire need of repair and maintenance. Despite being the only highway to connect the province with the federal capital, there are hundreds of dangerous bumps and holes on the highway. This has made traveling riskier here.

In another accident, Deepak Pun Magar, 20 of Pokhara Metropolitan City-23 lost his life when a truck hit a motorcycle in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-5 of Dhading. The truck (Ga 13 Pa 8085) was en route to Kathmandu from Hetauda while the ill-fated motorcycle was coming from the opposite direction.

Magar was riding pillion while his friend Suraj Adhikari, 21 was driving, the motorbike. He died on the way to hospital while motorcyclist Adhikari sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at the Kathmandu-based Trauma Center.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Prakash Bista informed Reublica that Ram Bahadur Gole, the driver of the truck and a resident of Hetauda Sub-metropolitan city have been brought under police custody following the accident.
