RAUTAHAT, June 26: Two detainees died while eight others were injured after a police van met with an accident in Rautahat on Tuesday.
The ill-fated van headed for the district headquarters Gaur from Chandranigahpur met with the accident at Balchanpur at around 3:10 pm. The deceased have been identified as Nirmal Sah, 20, also known as Mukesh of Chandrapur Municipality-4 and Ramesh Kumar Chaudhary, 40, of Inaruwa-1 of Sunsari district. Sah had been arrested on the charge of drug abuse while Chaudhary had been booked on the charge of murder.
According to the police, the crown and axle of the vehicle broke at once, causing the accident. There were six police personnel from the Area Police Office (APO), Chandranigahpur, and four detainees in the van.
