RAMECHHAP, Jan 21: Two persons were killed while several others sustained injuries when a passenger bus went out of control due to brake failure in Ramechhap on Sunday.
The bus with registration number Ba 4 Kha 4210 en route to Kathmandu from Okhaldhunga met with an accident at Machhedadi in Manthali Municipality.
The deceased have been identified as Om Karki of Champadevi Rural Municipality-6, Okhaldhunga and Niroj Bhujel of Manthali Municipality-5. Karki died on the spot while Bhujel died on the way to hospital, according to the District Police Office (DPO), Ramechhap.
As the vehicle was overcrowded with passengers, most of the passengers have sustained minor to severe injuries. After the brake failure, the driver reportedly moved the vehicle to an alternative route from the main road with an intention of saving the passengers but the vehicle went out of control and skidded off the road.
It has been speculated that accident would have cost more lives had the driver not adopted precaution on time. Some of the passengers who sustained critical injuries have been admitted to Dhulikhel Hospital for treatment.
