Two arrested with eight sacks of marijuana from Dharan

KATHMANDU, May 4: A team of the Armed Police Force (APF) has arrested two people with eight sacks of marijuana from Dharan, Sunsari.

Two people were arrested with 227 kg of marijuana in eight sacks on Thursday morning.

Head of APF Koshi Province, DIG Anjani Kumar Pokharel said that eight sacks of marijuana were seized during the inspection of a mini truck (Province 1-02-001 KHA 9489) from Shivadhara Checkpoint located in Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City-13.

A team deployed from APF Security Base Dharan arrested 34-year-old Chandra Thapa Chhetri of Chhatharjorpati Rural Municipality-6, Sindhuwa, of Dhankuta, the truck driver, and 28-year-old Chunamani Katwal, the conductor  of Chhathar Jorpati-2, along with 227 kg of marijuana at 1:30 AM.

Superintendent of Police of Armed Police Force Sunsari Lakesh Kumar Tumbahamfe said that the arrested persons, along with the marijuana and the truck, have been handed over to the Area Police Office, Dharan, to carry out the necessary investigation and action.

Marijuana produced in the Dhankuta area is being smuggled into India through a shortcut (thieves’ path). The APF seized 258 kg of marijuana on February 27 and 28 kg on February 16 from Sunsari.
