Two arrested while transporting half kg of gold from Kathmandu to Banepa

KATHMANDU, Dec 9: Police have arrested two people in Banepa, Kavre, with illegally smuggled gold.


The two people were arrested by the police on Sunday evening with about 558 grams of gold from Sanga Chowk, Ward 13 of Banepa Municipality.

The arrested individuals are Basanta Lam, 38, from Roshi Rural Municipality-9 and 29-year-old Amrit Shrestha from Manthali Municipality-1, Ramechhap. The vehicle was driven by Basanta Lama.


Police from the District Police Office, Kavre, conducted a search on a car (BAB 8608) heading from Kathmandu to Banepa. During the search, gold was found hidden in a plastic bag under the car seat, according to the police.


The police have said that further investigation into the incident is underway.
