Two arrested for setting fire to Indian trucks in Jhapa

KATHMANDU, Sept 24: Police have arrested two people on the charge of setting fire to two trucks with Indian number plates in Jhapa on Tuesday.


After the police arrested medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai, who is also the owner of B&C Hospital, the People’s Defense Force (PDF) under the ‘Save the nation, nationality, religion, culture and citizens campaign’  announced a ban on vehicular movement in Jhapa.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Krishna Chand, spokesperson for the District Police Office Jhapa, said that Bhim Limbu Tumwapo, a 40-year-old member of the People's Defense Force from Haldiwari Rural Municipality-1, Jhapa, and Bijay Chaudhary, a 39-year-old resident of Birtamod Municipality-7, were arrested for their alleged involvement in the truck arson. Both individuals are members of the Save the nation, nationality, religion, culture and citizens campaign.


According to Spokesperson Chand, both arrested individuals have been charged with criminal offense and involvement in the arson incident, and an investigation has begun. He further said that some suspects involved in the truck arson are still at large, and the search for them is ongoing.


The group set fire to an Indian cargo truck with number plate UP 57 AT 4493 on the bridge of Biring River on the East West Highway located in Kankai Municipality-8 and an Indian cargo truck with registration number WB 73 E 3056 on the East West Highway at Birtamod Municipality-6, Giribandhu Tea Estate. According to the District Police Office Jhapa, the drivers of both trucks who were injured due to arson are being treated.
