Twenty-eight Nepali nationals succumb to COVID-19 abroad this week

KATHMANDU, Aug 2: As many as 28 Nepali nationals died of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in foreign countries in the past one week. 

According to the weekly update of the Non-residential Nepali Association (NRNA), 25 Nepali nationals living in India succumbed to COVID-19, one in South Africa and two in Saudi Arabia.

With this, the death tally of Nepali nationals in foreign countries due to COVID-19 has reached 189. As of Saturday evening, 56 people died of coronavirus in various parts of Nepal. "The number of people dying of coronavirus worldwide including Nepal has reached 245," the NRNA stated.

Similarly, 35 Nepali nationals who attended a wedding ceremony in Luxemburg tested positive for COVID-19 in the past one week. Health condition of one of them is said to be critical. So far, Nepali nationals in 38 foreign countries have contracted COVID-19. In the meantime, as many as 37,400 Nepali stranded in various countries due to COVID-19 pandemic have been brought back home, according to the NRNA.

The government of Nepal has permitted 54 more chartered flights to rescue Nepali people left stranded in foreign countries. In this period, rescue flights were conducted from 29 different countries including India.
