The landmark show of support for the pro-life cause will mark the first time in 45 years a president has appeared at the event.

Trump will address crowds via video link from the White House Rose Garden, the traditional home for major policy announcements and diplomatic events, according to The Guardian. White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said: ‘The president is committed to protecting the life of the unborn and he is excited to be part of this historic event.’ George W Bush addressed the rally via a phone call, and Ronald Reagan through a loudspeaker, but Trump’s video appearance is the strongest show of support yet for the movement.

Last year Vice President Mike Pence and aide Kellyanne Conway both attended the event, which is held on the anniversary of the 1973 Roe vs. Wade court ruling that legalized abortion. The controversial appearance, which has infuriated pro-choice activists, was welcomed by Marjorie Dannenfelser, from anti-abortion group SBA List. She said: ‘President Trump’s video address to the March for Life is a crowning moment in a partnership that began before he was elected. ‘This is a critical tipping point in pro-life advocacy … Momentum is on the side of life and so is the Trump administration.’ Trump has previously flip-flopped on abortion, declaring himself ‘very pro-choice’, before later insisting her was pro-life.
