Trekking alongside natural beauty and indigenous culture

Exploring Nepal’s wilderness on foot is probably the best way to experience its natural beauty. Nepal is considered among the best trekking destinations in the world. Known for its majestic mountain ranges, Nepal introduces trekkers to a unique cultural experience of the sparse settlement there. One can expect picturesque landscapes with villages inhabited by different ethnic groups.

Moreover, trekking in Nepal is an all-season activity. It mainly depends on the traveler’s destination. However, the most popular seasons are spring (Feb-May) and autumn (Sep-Nov). Additionally, you don’t need to be a mountaineer to enjoy trekking here. If you have a knack for adventure and are willing to walk, you qualify to explore the vast trekking trails in Nepal.

From the forbidden kingdom of Mustang to the soaring peaks around Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Mount Everest, the possibilities of trekking in Nepal is diverse. Here are some of the exciting trekking routes of Nepal.

Everest Base Camp
The trek to the Everest Base Camp is among the most popular trekking destinations in the world. It takes around 17-25 days to reach the base camp, depending on the route you take. Due to its immense popularity, the route can be a little crowded during peak seasons.
You actually pass through the routes traversed by legendary mountaineers while walking through the beautiful Everest high passes. The journey that begins from the Namche Bazaar goes through the serene Imjatse Valley, through several Buddhist monasteries. The majestic Himalayan vista stands tall throughout the journey.

Annapurna Circuit
The Annapurna Circuit ascends 4622 meters before dropping down onto a high-altitude plateau that takes you along the Kali Gandaki river valley (world’s deepest gorge). Marking Pokhara as the starting point, it takes an average traveler nearly three weeks to complete the entire Annapurna Circuit. The circuit comprises a variety of landscapes ranging from dense jungle to high alpines, lush valley and up to arid peaks passing through many villages.
Many also consider the trail as a luxury trek because of the abundance of tea-houses and lodges found throughout the route. In recent years, many complain of the road accessibility decreasing the trekking experience to an extent.

Annapurna Sanctuary
For a relatively short trek without major altitude problems, the Annapurna Sanctuary trek is a great combination of stunning scenery and attractive villages. Commencing from rice paddies and ending among glaciers and towering peaks, the Annapurna Sanctuary trek is 10-14 days adventure into the icy bowels of the Annapurna range. It is this trek that actually goes to the Annapurna Base Camp (4157m).

Langtang
Langtang is one of the best short duration trekking destinations. It takes just over a week to complete the trek. It is an ideal option for those looking to explore the rich Tamang culture, beautiful landscape and vegetation of the Langtang region. Langtang is the perfect destination for those wishing to trek to the Himalayas looking for easier routes.

Dolpo and Mustang
It’s not been long since the Dolpo and Mustang regions were granted access to the tourists. This is a remote arid land consisting of canyons and caves that borders Tibet, North of Dhaulagiri, and West of the Kali Gandaki River. Though magnificent, the trek contains strenuous trails requiring extra effort on places.

Rara Lake, Rara National Park
Rara Lake is the largest lake in Nepal. It lies in the heart of the Rara National Park in remote western Nepal. Trekking to the lake is only advisable to seasoned trekkers. The road leading to the lake lacks basic services and logistics that other trails provide. However, the trek ends with a rewarding view of the enchanting lake.

Jomsom/Muktinath Trek
The journey to Jomson/Muktinath starts from Pokhara and takes you through Kali Gandaki River Valley. Expect to be fascinated with the breathtaking views of the lush rhododendron forests and parched deserts of Mustang. The trail also takes you through Hindu, and Tibetan Buddhist villages weaving through Lower Mustang and ending in Kagbeni.

Manaslu Trek
The Manaslu trek route is diverse, remote, and secluded. At the same time, it is enriched with a diverse topography offering a scenic beauty of the Himalayan region. The Manaslu trek is less crowded compared to other trekking routes. The trek is wild and remote, yet there are teahouses in short durations also acting as accommodations to the trekkers.
