PALPA, May 5: The District Police Office, Palpa has arrested two transport entrepreneurs on the charge of halting vehicular services on Friday.

Those arrested include Kiran Chitrakar, treasure of Srinagar Transport Entrepreneurs Association and Bikash Bhattarai, district in-charge of Pashchim Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs Association.
The government arrested the transport entrepreneurs in line with the Essential Services Operation Act 2014 BS after they halted public vehicular services to protest the government's decision to scrap transport cartels.

According to Bishnu Prasad Dhakal, Chief District Officer of Palpa district, Chitrakar and Bhattarai were detained from Tansen on Friday afternoon. Both the arrested have been kept at the District Police Office.

"Police are searching for other transport entrepreneurs involved in halting the services," said DSP Binod Pokharel.

Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs Association (FNNTEA) has been upping the ante against the government decision to scrap the syndicate system.
On April 17, the government had decided to scrap all the transport committees and related associations to permanently end the syndicate system.
