Traders in Biratnagar Metropolis disobey parking prohibition

BIRATNAGAR, April 4: Traders of Biratnagar have disobeyed the parking prohibition zone implemented by the Biratnagar Metropolitan Corporation.

The traders disobeyed the decision of the Metropolitan Corporation saying that the lack of parking on the street of the market has resulted in declining business.

After the disobedience of the traders, the Municipality has decided to make the no parking campaign more strict. The Biratnagar Metropolitan Corporation had prohibited parking on the main road from Jaljala Chowk to Traffic Chowk and other inner roads.

After the disobedience of the traders, a meeting of concerned bodies including local administration, Nepal Police, Traffic Police decided to effectively implement the parking prohibited area (no parking).

The meeting has also decided to organize the parking and proceed with the monitoring of the joint market in a subtle way, and to conduct the revenue enhancement campaign more effectively.

Chief District Officer of Morang Tirtharaj Bhattarai said that the local administration will support the campaign started by the metropolis as it is everyone's responsibility to organize the Biratnagar Municipality.

The executive meeting of the metropolis held on Sunday also decided to effectively implement the no parking implemented by the metropolis earlier.

After the disobedience, Mayor Nagesh Koirala said that there was pressure on the Metropolitan Corporation from the public to not back down from the campaign to make the road no parking.

Koirala said that alternative parking will be organized. He said that for the safety of vehicles, CCTV cameras and lights will also be installed in the alternative parking immediately.

Deputy Mayor Shilpa Nirala Karki said that the previous decision to organize the metropolis cannot be reversed.

In the meeting, Morang Police Chief SP Deepak Pokharel said that Nepal Police will also assist in the traffic management which was done earlier by Traffic Police and City Police.

Traffic police chief of Koshi province, Shyam Kumar Mahato, said that if there is good traffic management in places where VIPs are frequented, a good message will be sent across the country.
