BHAKTAPUR, March 28: The exhibition of photos taken by Swiss Geologist Dr Toni Hagen was kicked off at the Toni Hagen House, Bhaktapur on Monday evening in the presence of his daughter Katryn.

The photos being showcased at the exhibition depict old heritages, historical monuments especially from Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhakatapur and Kritipur.

The organizers said the purpose of photo exhibition is to provide the information about the situation of Kathmandu Valley back in 1950 and also about the present scenario of the three cities. The main aim of the exhibition is to highlight the importance of the preservation of historical sites.

Katryn, the daughter of the geologist, expressed hope that such exhibition will help preserve remaining heritages. 

Over five dozen photos are being displayed at the exhibition which was brought by Katryn herself in coordination with Conservationist Rabindra Puri.

At the program, Dr Toni was described as the first foreigner who had introduced Nepal to the outside world and also the first one to travel across the Nepal. He had traveled 14 thousands of kilometers during 12 years under the program of Nepal Government and United Nation to make the map of Nepal.

Dr Hagen who spent more than 50 years in Nepal authored ‘Nepal: The Kingdom in the Himalaya’. Dr Hagen, who passed away in 2003, was awarded with Pragya Alankar from late King Birendra in 1984 and also was conferred with Nepali citizenship in 1995. 

The exhibition, the second edition in Nepal, is slated to continue till April 1.
