KATHMANDU, Jan 10: Nepal Police Club started International Invitational Khaptad Gold Cup with a 3-0 win over Morang Football Club in a match played at Dhangadhi stadium in Dhangadhi on Wednesday.

The large mass that had gathered to watch the match saw Police’s Tirtha Rana score two goals in the first half and one more in the second to complete his hat-trick to propel the team to a stainless win against Morang on the second day of Khaptad Gold Cup.

Rana was adjudged player of the match and received Rs 10,000 for his contributions in the win.

Police head coach Ananta Thapa expressed happiness over his team’s finish on the winning side although the conditions were new for his players.

“It was a new ground. Players took their time to settle, but overall they did well. I am happy with the result,” Rana said.

Likewise, Morang head coach Sanjiv Budhathoki said Police Club was stronger and his team failed to perform against them.

“Our players couldn’t handle the pressure against the comparatively stronger side,” Budhathoki said.

Tournament’s foreign team Delhi United will face Chyasal Youth Club of Kathmandu on Thursday, whereas Nepal Police Club has been qualified for the quarter-final against Manang Marsyangdi Club on Sunday.
