Thulo Didi’s Story

She sat on the chair soaking in the rays of the sun and looking at the students. She does not remember her age and how long she had worked as a peon at Janak Nath Memorial School at Lainchaur. Sanja Maya is her real name. Everybody call her 'Thulo Didi' out of love. Thulo Didi was born in Melamchi . She married at an early age. She came to Kathmandu and started working. She worked hard for herself and her daughter. She worked at a house for nine years. Since the landlord was rude, she left that place and came to Paknajol. She worked at a school there. "I worked at school and also at the house where I lived in rent with my daughter. Now, as her years of struggle have gone by, things have changed. “My daughter teaches in this school. She is married and has two sons. She lives in the school premises. I retired as a peon. Recently, I fell and broke my legs but I still do household chores by myself. All these years, I have lived independently," said Thulo didi.
