CHARIKOT, Sept 13: Three years have elapsed since the 2015 earthquake left devastation manifold but the rebuilding of historical Dolakha bazaar based in Bhimeswor municipality-2 has not taken any momentum. 

Only 15 percent of the reconstruction works has been completed, which is quite disappointing for the quake survivors of one of the worst-hit districts. The victims are still compelled to survive under tents due to ambitious plans of Bhimeswor municipality. 

Recognizing predominant presence of Newar people in Dolakha Bazaar and its distinct identity, the municipality is opting for developing this place as a cultural heritage. However, the earthquake survivors are in a peril for not being able to construct their residence as per their wish and capacity. 

Even 100 houses have not been reconstructed to this date in a ward with 500 households, shared ward chairperson Biraj Shrestha. Not only private houses but the religious heritage sites have also not been reconstructed in Dolakha bazaar. 

The rebuilding drive has witnessed delay due to the problem of multiple ownership and municipality's inability to provide definite standards for reconstruction, Shrestha added.
