PYUTHAN, Nov 9: Three people were killed and 12 others injured when a jeep carrying passengers from Pyuthan Municipality-5, Patal Kateri met with an accident at local Purnagaun last night.
The jeep with the registration number Lu 1 Ja 3707 was heading towards Patal Kateri from Khaira of Pyuthan Municipality-1 at the time of the accident. The ill-fated jeep was carrying people who had gone to Khaira for observing the 'purnima mela', a religious fair held there every year.
Pyuthan Municipality-5 Ward Chairperson Choodamani Thapa said that 52-year-old Maiya Gharti, 45-year-old Khuman Thapa and 43-year-old Junaki Thapa of Patal Kateri died on the spot. He said all the injured in the accident are being treated at the District Hospital Bijuwar.
A team of police personnel from Area Police Office, Bijuwar with the help of locals rescued the injured and took them to hospital last night itself. The cause of the accident is not known yet. Police said the jeep driver Binod KM is absconding. Police said at least 17 people were onboard the jeep.
