KATHMANDU, Feb 27: Taking strong objection to the recently-endorsed Civil Servants Adjustment Bill, the government doctors have started boycotting their services except emergency across the country since today morning.

In a press statement, the Government Doctors' Association of Nepal (GODAN) stated that the government doctors were forced to launch agitation after the government failed to address their demands.

The agitating 1,400 government doctors have opposed certain provisions of the Civil Servants Adjustment Bill approved by the House of Representatives last month.

Arguing that the bill bars them from working under the federal government, GODAN Chairman Dr Dipendra Pandey said that the government should set up different mechanisms for adjusting the doctors.

With doctors' agitation in the state-owned health institutions, thousands of patients throughout the country have been affected.

As part of their protests, the disgruntled government doctors are boycotting an event being organized today to mark the Health Service Day by the Ministry of Health.

Chairman Pandey said that the government doctors would be forced to resign en masse if their demands are not met by tomorrow.
