BAGLUNG, Dec 24: Aiming to promote different breeds of local oranges and other home-grown agricultural commodities, Shree Ganesh Agricultue Cooperative organized the Third Orange Festival, 2075. The festival was organized in cooperation with Ward number 8, Baglung Municipality. It was organized in the village of Sigana, Baglung.

Inaugurating the fiesta, Janak Raj Poudel, Mayor of Baglung Municipality said, “Amongst situations of downfall and uncertainties, we have initiated a journey to prosperity. We are seeking stability after a long political change.” The mayor further added, “Now that the journey to economic growth and stability has begun, all of us have to work hand-in-hand to take it to the final destination.”
He focused in modernizing the agricultural system of Nepal. He stated that it is high time we became self sufficient and carried forward the agriculture of the country to the next level.

Bam Bahadur Thapa, head of Prime Minister Agriculture Modernization Project (PMAMP), Myagdi, acknowledged the organizer’s efforts to host such events in the district. He said, “Hosting such programs frequently will be helpful in enhancing the quality and capacity of agricultural products in the region.” 

“Baglung is in a state where the entire district can be self dependent by just producing oranges only and thereby selling them across the country. This is an excellent place for growing oranges,” he reiterated.

Places like the Baglung Municipality, Kaathe Khola Rural Municipality, Jaimini Municipality, Galkot Municipality and Badigad Rural Municipality carry immense possibilities for orange cultivation. The fruit comparatively is easier to farm. Once the plant is nurtured carefully, it can fetch good income for years. But patience is the key. Growing oranges need a lot of care to the plant, especially during its growing days.

Harinarayan Gautam, Former President, Federation of Nepali Journalists, Baglung and Gopal Kumar Sharma, Principal of SIgana Secondary School, Tityang said that the development of Agriculture in Nepal can lead us to being independent.
Rajan GC, Chairman of ward number 8 said, “The festival is organized with a vision to promote and sell other agricultural productions along with oranges. The festival also looks forward to managing a nation-wide market for agricultural commodities produced in Sigana.”

Agriculture exhibitions showcasing local agricultural commodities, performance by national and local artists and conducting different games in the venue are some of the attractions of the agriculture carnival. The festival is set to conclude on December 25.
