POKHARA, Feb 1: President of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), Chatur Bahadur Chand has stated that the demand to seek the resignation of the Working Committee is not justified. During a press conference organized in Pokhara on Wednesday to publicize the decisions taken by CAN board the previous day, he made it clear that there was no reason to ask for the resignation of the committee.

"Resignation should not be demanded by making noise outside, but should be requested in the general assembly by expressing one's views", CAN President Chand said, "It is clearly mentioned in the CAN Statute Article 35(1). We will call a special general meeting within 35 days after at least 33 percent of the members come up with a written demand for resignation, and the decision will be taken.'' It has also been decided to hold the annual general meeting of the Association on February 26  and 27 in Surkhet of Karnali Province.

During the press conference, President Chand stated that the two members appointed by the National Sports Council lacked proper justification. During the board meeting, the Executive Secretary of the Association, Prashant Bikram Malla, resigned from his position. He stated that he stepped down because it was necessary. The meeting then appointed Durgaraj Pathak of the Central Committee as the new Executive Secretary. The meeting also emphasized that calling for the resignation of the working committee members would result in the suspension of CAN. “The goal is to rectify past mistakes, address shortcomings, and work together to promote the interests of the association,” he said

The meeting lifted the suspension of Sandeep Lamichhane, the former captain of the Nepali national cricket team. President Chand said that Lamichhane was released after three months of disciplinary action. If the court stops him from playing, only then can we stop him from playing. Otherwise, we can't stop him, the three-month disciplinary action has been taken,” he said, “Then we lifted the suspension.” President Chand clarified that Lamichhane should not be included in the team now due to his fitness issues.

In the context of the unilateral cancellation of the agreement with Seven Three Sports to organize the Nepal T-20 League, Chand said that CAN should get the money it deserves and will go through the necessary legal process for that. As the Nepal T-20 league has been completed, the association has also decided to dissolve the governing council.

Announcing the decision of the meeting, President Chandsaid that Gulsan Jha was decided to be the captain of the Nepali U-19 national cricket team.
