Theft cases on rise

Kathmandu, Aug 13: The theft cases have increased in the country lately. Police Headquarters shared the information that police filed theft cases against a total of 2,646 persons in the last fiscal year.

They were involved in various sorts of thefts ranging from ordinary theft (1,142) to dacoity (199), theft using detour (155), vehicle theft (123), livestock theft (11), theft of archaeological items (4) and theft in the 3-person group (3).

Central Spokesperson of Nepal Police, Bishworaj Pokhrel, informed that the thefts were committed mostly at day time. "The quiet atmosphere in absence of people is found favorable by the burglar and dacoits," he added. In the Kathmandu Valley alone, 888 people were filed cases of theft last year.

The Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari, informed that 679 were involved in common theft while 52 in the theft of a motorcycle, 36 in theft with the use of detour and 87 in dacoity. Superintendent of Police, Shyam Lal Gyawali, informed that although the rate of organized crimes declined, the theft cases were on rising lately.
