KATHMANDU, Jan 22: Ghimire Yubraj, a theatre artist, has said that theatres are one of best mediums to introduce reforms in society.
Ghimire, who is also the founder and director of the Shilpee Theatre in the capital, reiterated that the beauty standard in Nepali movies has shifted to another level due to the influence of theatres. “One very good example is that theatre artists in Nepali film industry have changed the way we see heroes and heroines in movies,” said Ghimire during #2030, a premium talk show hosted by Republica.
On the occasion, he also shared that the theatre sector will not sustain and flourish unless the government provides subsidies to theatres.
Theatre is a unique art form which is changing the way we hold protests in Nepal, according to him.
“Being a part of a society, it’s our responsibility to alert those who are acting wrongly. Sadly I don't see that happening much.”
He also stated that the theatre sector is lagging behind due to our incompetency in marketing and branding. This has resulted in a lack of investment in theatres as investors are rarely attracted. “We are trying to fill that void in the upcoming days.”
