The show they put up was superb with the audiences crooning and grooving to their music. Pemba Lepcha, the vocalist of the band took on stage with the The Beatles “Act Naturally,” which was a unanimous decision of the band prior the actual show.[break]
“We have not decided the exact numbers we will be playing, we would rather go with the flow,” Lepcha had informed. The audiences seemed to have realized what they had in store from the very first song and by the time the band began its second song the audiences had been taken by storm.
The evergreen “Oh Carol,” by Neil Sedaka, “Have I Told You Lately” of Van Morrison’s when played worked like a tonic and the atmosphere turned electric.
“I think the band is awesome,” said Nitish Shrestha, 22, adding, “They play covers like it’s their own composition.” Indeed, the band played songs with the music precise, the vocals clear and the mood just right. The band being a veteran one with members like Dev Rana on the drums, Subarna Limbu on bass and vocals, Dipak Thapa on guitars the expectation are bound to be high.
Along with great music the band offered the audiences a surprise when a lady dressed in a saree took on the stage.
Dechen Bhutia, 22, joined the band with the 1971 classic “Imagine,” by John Lennon. The encounter of this young musician-singer with the band is an interesting tale in itself.
While performing at a pub in Thamel she was approached and asked to join in. Having performed for the past four years Dechen carried with herself a confidence which added a kind of smoothness to her songs.
Mukunda K Khadka, was another surprise package at the show. With classics like “Blue Sued Shoes” to “Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On” he stole the show.
A little later into the night the band performed numbers like “Knocking On Heaven’s Door” and “U Gonna Drive My Car.”
The audience seemed to not get enough of Dev Rana’s drums, Mukunda Khadkas’d Elvis moves and songs, Subarna Limbu’s enchanting voice, Dipak Thapa’s few but mesmerizing numbers and Pemba Lepcha’s charisma. If wrinkles have anything to say its only that it grows not only with age but with talent.
The next edition of the concert will move to a new performance space in Cafereena in Durbar Marga with Ashesh Nekhvam.
