The moment when earthquake hit me and my Nepal
By Sonam Lama
On April 25, my family and I had just finished our lunch and when I was watching T.V. suddenly everything started shaking. I was scared and felt as if it was the end of my life. All the photo frames started swinging vigorously and falling down hitting me and my sister.
We thought to get out of the house after the shaking would stop but it seemed to have no intention of stopping. As soon as my mum and sister in law came downstairs, we moved out to an open place for safety. All our neighbors were also there. Everyone seemed frightened and some of them were even crying. It was a horrifying experience.
After that i went to the Kasthamandup because there was a blood programe installed. All temples, houses being completely damaged. We had help to get out the people free from rubble of a destroyed temple.
Luckily, all my friends and family are safe. My house has no damage. We faced no casualties in our community. My college is safe as well.
Moments
Famous historical monuments like Dharahara and Darbar Squars were destroyed in the quake. The death toll kept increasing every minutes and districts like Sindhupalchowk, Gorkha and other 12 districts are the most affected places.
Despite the aftershocks still going on, we are trying to return to normalcy. Many people are traumatized but we should try not to panic during such situations, we should keep calm and head to a safer place. If not we should find a safe place inside the house. Many people panic and jump from windows due to which they suffer injuries or lose their life. We should not run down the stairs during a quake. We should maintain our presence of mind during such situations. so, keep calm and stay safe.
