The Little Shopkeeper

The Little Shopkeeper

Eight-year-old Sagar KC studies in Grade IV at Annapurna School and is currently living in Bhotahity, Kathmandu. He sells fidget spinners by the road in his small stall to earn some pocket money for himself and his 10 –year-old brother.

He says he gives the extra money to his mother so that she can save it for him. He started selling fidget spinners just to pass time during his holidays. Sagar says he sells about four to five spinners a day. He gets the spinners from his mother, who also has a shop in New Road.

He says he wanted to earn some extra bucks so as to help the family during the festive season. Sagar is fond of his brother and they stay at the stall together. “Seeing such young kids concerned about their family and finances makes us feel proud, but no kid should be pushed toward child labor,” said Ram Hari Sharma, security officer at a jeweler shop near Sagar’s stall.
