An Armed Police Force squad of nine, which reached the crime site at around 8:00 am this morning, held Lalit Bahadur Rai for questioning.
Rai, whose house is just 15 minutes walk away from the incident site, was arrested after one of his two khukuris was found missing, a villager said quoting police. [break]
Though no weapon was recovered from the crime site, the wounds the deceased had sustained showed the killer could have possibly used a khukuri in the murder.
Witnesses have said the body of household head Keshar Bahadur Magar, 57, was found with his temple injured and throat slit, while his 42-year-old wife Harkamaya’s body bore stab wounds in the head, hands and other body parts.
The couple’s two daughters –Ranju, 10 and Premi, 8— were also killed in the attack. Their other two daughters, Manju and Kumari, were out of home when the incident happened.
Police are preparing to send their bodies to Katari Hospital for post mortem, informed Dal Bahadur Thakuri, a local. It could take around 10 hours to take the bodies to the hospital, he added.
The couple’s 11-year-old son Netra Bahadur, who was critically injured in the attack, has sent to Katari for treatment this morning.
