KATHMANDU, Jan 3: Dr Ram Bhakta PB Thakur has been picked as the president of the Association of Former Career Ambassadors of Nepal (AFCAN).
A special assembly organized virtually by AFCAN unanimously picked Thakur as its president on Saturday.
Thakur is a career diplomat who served as Nepal's ambassador to Egypt from 2005 to 2010. Prior to that, he served as the chief of protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Later, he also served as an election commissioner of Nepal.

Thakur will have a two-year term. Other office bearers of the AFCAN will be picked by the president among the members of the organization.
The AFCAN, which was founded in 2006, currently has 30 members.
The post of AFCAN president was lying vacant after the demise of Pushkar Man Singh Raj Bhandari, another career diplomat.
