Thai Food Festival at Fairfield by Marriott

KATHMANDU, Oct 2: If you are a foodie, make sure to enter Kava Restaurant with craving tongue as the Thai Food Festival is definitely a must visit for the food lovers. The food festival is led by the guest chef Kroongtana Nimnu, from Thailand. 


The food festival is organized by Fairfield by Marriott (first Marriott brand in Nepal) in association with the Royal Thai Embassy and Tourism Authority of Thailand. 


With the support of resident culinary team, Nimnu will be preparing scrumptious dishes until next Tuesday.

Speaking on the inauguration ceremony, Bhakavat Tanskul, Thai Ambassador to Nepal, said that he was happy to attend the food festival. He also appreciated cooperating with the Fairfield by Marriott and Tourism Authority of Thailand for the event.

After the ambassador's speech, the Tourism Authority of Thailand presented the short cultural performance from the Thai students and artists, which included a Thai dance.   


The festival will offer authentic Thai dishes such as: Tom Yum Goong (Spicy Shrimp Soup), Tom Kha Kai (Coconut-based Chicken Soup), Kao Na Phet (Duck with rice), Som Tum (Raw Papaya Salad), Pad Thai noodles, Gaeng Keow Wan Kai (Green Thai Chicken Curry). Likewise, sweet rice, egg custard, and many more deserts will be served at during the festival. 


In a short interview with Republica, chef Nimnu said that he has been promoting Thai cuisine for more than 19 years. When asked about the difference between Thai and other cuisines, Nimnu said: "The Thai cuisine picks the culture from the Chinese cuisine. Curry is influenced by Indian cuisine. However, in Thailand, we remove some spice and add a lot of decorum to make it our own style. In Thailand, we prepare food in a curry way.” 


The specialty about the Thai food is its making and the taste, he said, adding: “The Thai cuisine is very delicate and the cuisine is an amalgam of the art and the curry-way of making. We start from the cutting. We cut it in a different style. Also, the Thai food is all in one. We have sweet, sour, and salty tastes all in one, but the Thai food doesn’t support spices unlike the Indian cuisine.” 


The chef further said that he has been involved in the promotion of Thai food for almost two decades. 

The entry fee for the festival is Rs 2199 per person, which includes buffet food and unlimited house beverages.


The food festival is scheduled to be held until October 9 at the Kava Restaurant, Fairfield by Marriott, Keshar Mahal Marg, Thamel.
